Operations Technician – Infrastructure :
** The purpose of this role is to manage and maintain the systems and platforms that we provide to our customer base.
** You will be a key person in the SMX team diagnosing and troubleshooting problems and supporting the prompt resolution of any issues.
** The primary focus of this role is to ensure that our infrastructure and associated platforms and systems run smoothly and we deliver our services to our customers within agreed SLAs.
** At SMX you will be part of a close knit team and will be required to collaborate with staff from infrastructure operations, support, development and administration/sales.
** A flexible and collaborative working style is necessary to ensure that problems are solved quickly and our customers are not impacted by any issues.
Key Functions and Responsibilities:
** Installing, configuring and optimising our infrastructure, systems and platforms that are used to deliver solutions to our customers.
** First line of help and expertise to the support, development and infrastructure services teams.
** Monitoring of the services running in production.
** Scheduled maintenance and emergency response to outages and incidents
** Troubleshooting problems and issues, and finding root causes.
** Helping other parts of the business diagnose problems using your specialist knowledge of the infrastructure.
** Keeping applications up to date and running, capacity planning and fixing issues as they arise.
** Support the design of new customer or product solutions.
** Dealing with our vendors to raise tickets and resolve problems.
** Document your work clearly and concisely.
** You will be required to share the on-call duties with other operations team members. This means carrying a pager and responding within defined SLAs. You will be required to be on-call one week in three and will be compensated as part of your package.
Preferred Skills and Experience :
** Experience managing and deploying complex Unix/Linux environments (at least 5 years). Preferably CentOS or RHEL.
** Broad troubleshooting and diagnosis experience.
** Familiar with ITIL best practise, including change management, incident management and problem management
** Demonstrable skills in scripting languages (bash/sh, Perl, Ruby, Python).
** Exposure to configuration management tools like Puppet or Chef.
** Administrator level experience with email services and technolgies such as SMTP, POP and IMAP.
** Proven success in a technical role, specifically with the following internet skills: Networking, Load balancing with Big IPs or open source tools like HAProxy, DNS, email, ActiveSync, SSL/TLS, PKI, firewalls.
** A good understanding of network authentication technologies such as Kerberos
** A good working knowledge of TCP/IP and preferably some exposure to IPv6
** Good working knowledge of SQL, both MySQL and Postgres and exposure to Cassandra would be a bonus.
** A good understanding of LDAP.
** Strong skills in Virtualisation technologies such as Xen, Parallels and VMWare, KVM, libvirtd, OpenStack, Docker, Vagrant, Packer
** Good knowledge of standard Linux disk management tools.
** A good understanding of distributed file systems like Glusterfs, Ceph, and HDFS
** Experience managing RPMs, including building/managing RPMs and repositories
** Exposure to package management tools like Satelite or Spacewalk.
** Preferably experience in a Telco or an ISP.
** Ideally some experience in security and cloud solutions.
** Working knowledge of security tools and security practises, such as vulnerability assessment, vulnerability management, IDS/IPS, centralised logging, event correlation, defense in depth, server hardening.
** Working knowledge of firewalls like pfSense, IPTables, Sophos UTM, Astaro
** Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
** Be well organised and enjoy being part of a strong motivated team.
** Attention to detail and able to stay focused.
** Able to take responsibility and ownership of a problem through to resolution.
** Able to deal with a fast moving, sometimes stressful environment.
** Excellent time and self management skills.
Qualifications and Certifications :
** Ideally a teritary level qualification in an IT related field
** Relevant industry and professional certifications like RHCSA, RHCE, RHCA, LPIC-1, LPIC-2, LPIC-3
Operations Services Technician/Email Specialist :
** The purpose of this role is to configure, manage and troubleshoot the hosted email systems and platforms that we provide to our customers.
** You will be a key person in the SMX team diagnosing and troubleshooting problems and supporting the prompt resolution of any issues.
** The primary focus of this role is to ensure that our mail systems run smoothly and we deliver our services to our customers within agreed SLAs.
Key Functions and Responsibilities:
** Installing, configuring and optimising email systems and platforms that are used to deliver solutions to our customers.
** First line of help and expertise to the support and infrastructure operations teams.
** Monitoring of the services running in production.
** Troubleshooting problems and issues, and finding root causes.
** Helping other parts of the business diagnose problems using your specialist knowledge of the email systems and platforms.
** Understanding how email messages are affected by other problems.
** Support the design of new customer or product solutions.
** Dealing with our vendors to raise tickets and resolve problems.
** Document your work clearly and concisely.
Skills and Experience:
** Ideally exposure to large-scale mail systems (e.g. Momentum, Openwave, open source email systems). You need to understand how email works and how different configurations and settings will affect the behaviour of an email system.
** General systems admin (Linux/Unix) experience (at least 5 years).
** Broad troubleshooting and diagnosis experience.
** Exposure to highly concurrent, high transaction, highly scalable solutions.
** Proven success in a technical role, specifically with the following internet skills: Networking, Load balancing, DNS, email, ActiveSync, TLS, PKI.
** Preferably experience in a Telco or an ISP.
** Ideally some experience in security and cloud solutions.
** Be well organised and enjoy being part of a strong motivated team.
** Attention to detail and able to stay focused.
** Able to take responsibility and ownership of a problem through to resolution.
** Ideally a tertiary level qualification in an IT related field
** Relevant industry or vendor certifications
