QuantuMDx Group is one of the most exciting biotechs to emerge from the UK and is developing a low cost, simple>to>use, handheld laboratory for 15>minute diagnosis of disease at the patient’s side, for commercialisation in 2015. The robust device, which converts genetic sequences data from DNA and converts it into binary code using a nanowire field effect transistor. It is ideally suited to help address the humanitarian health burden by offering first world molecular diagnostics at a fraction of the price of traditional testing.
By rapidly & accurately detecting and monitoring emerging drug resistance of infectious diseases such as malaria, TB and HIV will enable health professionals to immediately prescribe the most effective drug against that disease. Once the device has passed regulatory approval it will be available in developed countries for infectious disease testing and rapid cancer profiling and, in time, be available over>the>counter at pharmacists.
Position overview :
QuantuMDx is looking for a skilled software engineer to develop software on our Q>POCTM platform, to develop development software for our research platforms, and to liaise with our engineering and software partners across the globe to realise the Q>POCTM platform.

Main duties and responsibilities :
** The candidate hired for this role will work within a team of scientists and engineers developing molecular new polymers coatings and particle for a range of diseases cartridges for QuantuMDx’s portable molecular diagnostic device.
** The candidate will also be required to not only work within the Chemistry team based in Newcastle>upon> Tyne, but also work as part of a wider research group globally, with QuantuMDx’s other labs and partners labs.
** To interact with, and ensure excellent communication with, the other QuantuMDx R&D groups, primarily the biosensor team and external engineering partners.
Experience, knowledge and requirements :
The candidate hired for this role will be an extraordinary individual who has strong technical understanding and experience in polymer and particle chemistry and a proven ability to work within a team of scientists and engineers to accomplish product development goals.
Essential :
** Experience with polymer science, coatings and surface chemistry Understanding of particle science
** Experience of interfacing with biological media Experience of analytical techniques related to these fields. Proven ability to work within a quality system
** Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a changing environment on complex projects.
** Outstanding teamwork and an ability to interact with external and internal partners on fast>paced projects.
** MSc or above in a Chemical Science.
** Be eligible to work full time in the UK without restriction.
Desirable :
** Experience with in vitro diagnostics (IVD) assay development or developing Life Science instruments or medical devices
** Knowledge of nanotechnology and an understanding of basic electronics
** Knowledge of ISO13485 (in vitro diagnostics) and familiarity with global regulatory requirements that pertain to product development and IVD manufacturing (e.g. CE IVD mark, FDA, etc)
** Good sense of humour, team player and an ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment as the Company matures and moves from the R&D stage into commercialisation is essential.
