Research Assistant:
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the post of Research Assistant (SOG/ST 6) in the Office of the Children’s Advocate; salary and allowances are in keeping with the Government salary scale.

Job Summary :
Reporting to the Children’s Advocate the incumbent will be required to undertake research to inform the OCA and contribute to policy and decision making. He/She will also assist with preparation of the annual report to Parliament and special projects.

Main Duties :
** Provides assistance to the legal team in the preparation of their documents and reports.
** Facilitates the collection of data concerning children and maintains a database for use by the staff.
** Collates and analyzes data and prepares reports to inform the work of the OCA and for policy recommendation.
** Undertakes research as needed by the OCA as it seeks to promote and enforce the rights and best interests of children in Jamaica.
** Designs and produces data collection instruments appropriate to the needs of the OCA.
** Analyzes annual or quarterly publications from stakeholders to highlight issues for the attention of the OCA.
** Analyzes and interprets on a monthly basis intake forms of the OCA and maintain a database.
** Assists in the preparation of the Annual and Special Reports of the OCA for Parliament or as is required.
** Maintains a database on national and international conventions and protocols relating to children and ensures its accessibility to the staff.
** Represents the OCA at Media interviews and speaking engagements.
** Performs other related duties as assigned by the Children’s Advocate or her designate.

Required Competencies :
** Requires extensive knowledge of research methodologies
** Statistical and data analysis techniques
** Strategic thinking ability
** Action oriented and committed to meeting deadlines

Minimum Required Qualification And Experience :
** A Master’s degree in Social Sciences or equivalent qualification from an accredited tertiary institution.
** One (1) year related working experience in research design and analysis.
