Summit Environmental Consultants Inc. is seeking an Intermediate Hydrologist to join our Water Resources Practice in Vernon, British Columbia.

Client sectors include transportation, hydropower, First Nations, urban infrastructure, mining, and oil and gas. Our largest office in Vernon, B.C. includes 50 scientists and support staff. Our office is located downtown, less than a 15 minute commute for most people and within 35 minutes of the Kelowna International Airport.
Position :
As an Intermediate Hydrologist, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and guidance for a variety of surface water projects, project management, strategic planning, and business development in a dynamic working environment. Based in Vernon, B.C. the role will include work across western and northern Canada.
Specifically, you will be working with the Water Resources team to carry out :
** Hydrometric monitoring and stream channel surveys and assessments;
** Hydrologic data investigations including statistical analyses (e.g. flood and low-flow frequency analyses), hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, water supply and demand studies, environmental flow needs assessments, mine-related water balance investigations, flow ramping studies, reservoir level and erosion analyses, investigations related to water intakes, and contributions to water management and governance studies;
** Water quality and sediment transport studies and modeling;
** Preparation of high quality scientific and technical reports;
** Management of projects, including project scoping and budgeting, planning, client liaison, quality assurance and quality control, managing inter-disciplinary project teams, and project administration; and
** Business development activities, including managing and writing proposals, making strategic decisions to pursue project work, developing and maintaining relationships with clients, and presenting and attending external events (e.g. conferences and workshops).
Requirements :
Critical attributes for this role include a high level of technical skill, a drive to pursue new and interesting projects and to develop professionally, and a desire to support the development of other professionals.
In addition to experience in the roles noted above, candidates should specifically have the following qualifications :
** Masters’ degree (or at a minimum a Bachelors’ degree) in hydrology, physical geography, earth science, or water resources engineering and a minimum of 6 years’ post-graduation experience in environmental consulting or applied research;
** Professional registration (P.Geo., P.Ag., P.Eng., or R.P.F.) or eligible to be registered within 1 year;
** Canadian citizen or permanent resident; or otherwise authorized to work in Canada;
** Excellent organization skills and attention to detail;
** Project management experience;
** Knowledge of Canadian regulations;
** Field experience with an awareness of safe work procedures and hazard assessments. Formal safety training is an asset;
** Experience working in remote areas, and working in extreme environments and weather conditions. Experience operating all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles is an asset;
** Ability and desire to work collaboratively, both in a lead and support role, with other environmental professionals; and
** Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of lay and technical audiences. Proficiency with software for word processing, data management, hydrologic analyses, and presentations.
